Things Not Seen Are Seen In Faith
Things Not Seen Are Seen In Faith

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

One of my favorite stories in the bible is the story of the exodus found in the book of Exodus. Many times, as I’m reading, I imagine myself standing near the rock where Moses stood and watching that great body of water part to make a passage of dry ground available for me to cross. DRY GROUND. I’m flabbergasted at that thought. The truest of true miracles. God’s love for his people and Moses’ faith in God caused the Israelites to experience this truest of true miracles. But how did they get here? Where did the miracle begin?

Now Faith

To answer this question, let’s look at Hebrews 11:1 which says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The Israelites were held in captivity for over 400 years. At the end of Exodus 14 in verse 31, we’re told that, “Israel saw the great work which the Lord did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord, and His servant Moses.” At a glance, one would think that the Israelites only began to believe at this moment after this miraculous occurrence. They had faith, now, in God and Moses after the facts. In actuality, the children of God could not have FAITH NOW unless they first had NOW FAITH over four hundred years ago. Hebrews 11:1 I sheds more light on the story. It is explained this way. NOW FAITH, meaning faith at this very moment when we first start seeking God for an answer to our problems or issues, is the substance of things hoped for. The Israelites began their NOW FAITH over four hundred years ago when they learned of the deliverer whom they had never seen, did not know who he would be or what he would look like. But they were prophesized a deliverer, and so they believed with their NOW FAITH.

The Substance

Then Hebrews 11:1 further explains to us what NOW FAITH is: “NOW FAITH is the SUBSTANCE of things hoped for…” Because the people of God had faith, they also had substance. What is substance? I looked up the word and found three separate meanings in general the same. However, there was one that stood out considerably more than the other two. SUBSTANCE is defined as the most important or essential part of something. Which unequivocally defines the word faith. Faith is indeed the most important and essential part of our prayer life. If we do not ask of God in Faith, there is no point in asking of Him at all. “Without faith it is impossible to please Him.” (Hebrews 11: 6)

The Evidence

The last part of this amazing scripture reads: “the EVIDENCE of things not seen.” The word EVIDENCE means the [available] body of facts indicating whether a belief is true or valid. NOW FAITH is the EVIDENCE that what we are believing God for is true because God cannot lie, is valid because God is the true and living God and is already done because God’s word will not return void, even if it takes four hundred years to be seen with the naked eye.

Trust The Process

Surely some of the Israelites must have become discouraged during their four hundred years of captivity. It’s human nature, right. But also, there had to be those who kept a strong faith and encouraged others to do the same. Just as there are today among Christians. We are each other’s strength. We can certainly read as they were presumably trapped at the border of the Red Sea that they complained and murmured against Moses in disbelief. But Moses upon God’s instruction, encouraged the people to "go forth without fear to see the salvation of God." (Exodus14:15 )In short version; trust the process. I encourage you to do the same. Whatever you are faced with that is beyond your control, activate your NOW FAITH, wait on God expectantly and TRUST THE PROCESS.

Thank you for Reading! Please come again.

I pray you believe wholeheartedly in Isaiah 55:11- “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
