PURPOSFUL LISTENING

Internalize God's word
Internalize God's word

In my previous post, I talked about developing spiritual ears. In this post I want to convey the importance of using spiritual ears to listen with the sole purpose of becoming one with God in heart mind and spirit. We become one with God by developing faith in Him. We develop faith in Him by increasing our knowledge of God and forming a willing obedience to His Word. We do this by hearing the word. Romans 10:17 teaches that; “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” This scripture underscores the profound connection between faith and the reception of God’s word. It emphasizes that faith is not an inherent trait but a response that is cultivated through exposure to the divine message.

Hearing is not merely the act of auditory perception, but an active and intentional engagement with the word of God. It involves a readiness to listen, understand, and internalize the teachings in the bible. When one hears the word of God, it has the power to inspire, convict, and transform, leading to the development and strengthening of faith. Strengthening our faith should be our main purpose for hearing the word of God because it fosters a closer relationship with God.

When God’s Word Is Proclaimed

The faith developing process begins with the proclamation of God’s word, whether through preaching, reading the bible, or other forms of spiritual instruction. As individuals hear these divine truths, the Holy Spirit works within us to open our hearts and minds to understanding. This spiritual enlightenment stimulates faith, enabling believers to trust in God’s promises, His character, and His plan for our lives.

Furthermore, as believers grow in faith, they become more attuned to the word of God, leading to a deeper and more profound understanding. This continuous cycle of hearing and faith-building reinforces the believer’s relationship with God and his or her commitment to His teachings.

Served On A Silver Platter

Christians are heirs to God’s Kingdom. Faith unlocks the doors to that kingdom. It isn’t just given to us on a whim. It is instead offered to us on a silver platter. After which, it is up to us to receive it. “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God,” is a call to action to accept the silver platter by immersing oneself in the scripture, listening actively and receptively, and to allow the word of God to shape and fortify one’s faith. It reminds believers that faith is nurtured through continuous exposure to God’s word and that true spiritual growth is achieved through persistent and earnest engagement with the divine message. Therefore, we must listen with the expected purpose of growing closer to God and His Kingdom by intentionally growing our faith in Him.
