Grace In the Eyes of God

A Righteous Man

Welcome back to my Men of Faith series. Today, we explore Noah, who followed his great-grandfather Enoch's example and walked with God. He was regarded with high esteem by God who called him righteous. (Genesis 7:1) A man God could trust with the incredible task of preserving all the earth’s ‘living things’ as He pondered the earth's destruction.

Picture of Grace

What does God's grace look like? In Genesis 6: 8-9, It is said that “Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord” because “Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.” The bible clearly defines a special love story unlike no other between God and man. A faith walk with God is the ultimate spiritual experience that can only be beneficial to whomever willingly takes His hand to enjoy the awe-inspiring journey. Noah’s choice to walk with God ultimately put him in a special place of God’s grace that would spare his life and the life of his family through the destruction of the flood that God would send upon the earth. This grace initiated the renewal of the earth through the preservation of the animals and other living organisms that were safeguarded on the ark.

Ridiculous Endeavor

Sometimes our faith requires us to do things that others may call ridiculous. However, it is our level of faith that defines how much ridiculousness God can entrust us with. It takes a ridiculously high level of faith to be given a ridiculous task from God. You must be like Noah, perfect in your generations. Being perfect in his generation had its benefits. One is that it caused God to reveal his plan to destroy the earth to him and instruct him to build a massive boat; the largest of its times, to house and protect his family during the forty days and nights of rain. Second Noah was given the executive position of saving a select number of all animals and creatures on earth to replenish the earth after this great flood. I can imagine the ridicule Noah must have faced during such a ridiculous endeavor. But Noah’s great faith fueled his strength to carry out the mission God had given him. A mission he and his family were the sole beneficiaries that led to the rebirth of the world. There’s an unexplainable sensation of peace in being ridiculous for the Lord.

Noah’s Purpose

Genesis 5:29 tells us- “And he [his father Lamech] called his name Noah [which means rest], saying, this same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed.” Signifying that Noah’s very name is a projection of God’s promise of rest after the flood. In Genesis 8:21, Because Noah’s heart stayed perpetuated on God, upon leaving the ark, he built an alter and offered to Him burnt offerings. “The Lord smelled the sweet savour; said in His heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake…” This was Noah’s divine purpose in life. The reason for his very creation, his very existence.
