When I was a child, my parents would load me and my brothers and sisters up in the truck to go fishing. There was a place called Steele Bayou not far from where we lived that Dad would take us to. I remember once we saw a giant turtle (like the big sea turtles) that had unfortunately died and washed up on the bank. But as children, we were still pretty excited to see a turtle so big. I have many fond memories of those times. I don't even dare to try to remember how many fishing poles we lost to the water, frantically and need I say, unsuccessfully chasing into the water after them. Then there were the times when we actually caught a fish. That was the real excitement. As children, because we spent a lot of time in between bites, playing around and goofing off, we never really realized how much time we spent waiting for that exciting bite. As adults, it's a much different story. I still get much pleasure out of fishing. Aside from the past three years, I would take a trip up to Lake Washington every year for my birthday to spend the weekend. Sadly to say, the death of my oldest brother and me caring for my ailing mother kept me from my birthday tradition in the past recent years. Shortly after my mother's death, I moved away. But sitting out on that lake from sun up to sun down, listening to the water loons and watching them sail across the lake was the most relaxing experience for me. Sometimes I never even caught one fish and I was still reluctant to leave that beautiful place. My birthday is in February, the coldest month of the year in the region of Mississippi where Lake Washington is located. So why did I travel 65 miles from home each year to sit all day on a dock in the bitter cold for something that most times never even happened? Because I love it that much. The same way that I love writing... about nature, about family, about love, but most of all about God and His amazing miracles that He still performs. It's also why I've started a new series for you to enjoy of stories pulled from un-written pages of my books called Between The Pages. And its absolutely FREE. Because I love writing that much. Check it out. See how you like it.
